The very first time Evan and Esther met was at the first compline of Esther's first semester at Purdue. (Compline is an evening prayer service held twice a week by the students at University Lutheran Church). Esther (poor damsel in distress) got locked outside of the church, and Evan (her knight-in-shining-armor) came downstairs to let her in. And so it began!Â
The day has arrived! The details of this story are incredibly beautiful and intricate, and we absolutely encourage anyone who wants to hear them to ask us! But in the meantime, here's a slightly abbreviated version.
The day began with a trip to the Lafayette Farmer's Market in the morning. Then later in the day, Evan arrived to take Esther on the third PSL date, simultaneously recreating the coffee and bookstore date at Greyhouse and Von's in West Lafayette. They then visited Silver Dipper, the ice cream shop from their first date, and crossed the bridge to Lafayette. Here, Evan pulls Esther aside, gifts her the very same Ben-Hur book from almost 2 years before, and uses the quote they read then to get down on one knee. Esther, overjoyed, says yes, but her surprises are not complete. From around the corner, her entire family and many friends appear, invited by Evan to celebrate with the two. The evening is finished with a wonderful dinner together with everyone at Bistro 501, the same restaurant from Evan and Esther's first "fancy date".
And so begins Evan and Esther's season of engagement and a whole new chapter of life, which the two are beyond excited to begin together!
